The Vienna Boys Choir, Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra, Awadagin Pratt to perform
Shepherdstown, WV - Friends of Music, the non-profit organization that supports musical excellence at Shepherd University and brings world-class music to the community, will announce its upcoming season schedule next week with the delivery of thousands of subscription offers to the region. Once again the FRIENDS anticipate an overwhelming response to the “9 for 99” subscription offer that is good until Sept. 15th. As in last season, nine concerts are being offered to subscribers for ninety nine dollars, and this season a bonus concert is being added at no additional cost. The world-famous Vienna Boys Choir will be in concert on October 27th and, though not a part of the series subscription, all series subscribers are entitled to special discount pricing for this concert.
"I heard the Vienna Boys Choir first in 1948 at Chautauqua in upstate New York. Being the same size at 10 years old, I was astounded. But having passed quite a few years since then, I'm still amazed at the quality and musicianship of these young singers." Said Dr. Rob Northrup, president of the FOM board of directors. "It is a rare privilege to have them here in Shepherdstown."
The series opens with the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra salute American composers, including the founder of the University’s music program, Dr. Guy Frank. The program will include the east coast premier of Joseph Curiale’s “Awakening.” All concerts will be performed at the Frank Center on the campus of Shepherd University.
Dr. Mark McCoy, chairman of the Shepherd University Department of Music and conductor of the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra said "The FRIENDS have done it again! I am amazed at the roster of talent the FRIENDS are able to bring to our region. From Awadagin Pratt to the Vienna Boys Choir, this will be an amazing season!"
